Ausable Bayfield Conservation invites people to discover wonders of Devonian Era through guided hikes at Rock Glen Conservation Area near Arkona
Hikers will learn about fossils and creatures that lived in Arkona area more than 400 million years ago; Spaces are limited so register today

A limited number of interested people will learn, on guided hikes, about fossils and creatures that lived more than 400 million years ago. Ausable Bayfield Conservation staff will lead guided hikes, for hikers to discover the wonders of the Devonian Era, at Rock Glen Conservation Area (RGCA) near Arkona.

The first hike takes place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The second hike takes place on Wednesday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (These two events might be the last guided hikes at RGCA until autumn). Each hike is limited to 25 people.

“Your adventure begins at Arkona Lions Museum and Information Centre with a brief educational session, followed by a scenic guided hike through our trails,” said Nathan Schoelier, Stewardship, Land and Education Manager at Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA). “This one-hour experience is open to registered participants with paid entry to Rock Glen Conservation Area.” 

Hikers are likely to see fossils along their journey.
