Donors make it possible to buy new South Huron Trail Mobile, providing nature experience to more people who have limited mobility
New South Huron Trail Mobile has room for five passengers; volunteer drivers provide accessible outdoor nature appreciation opportunity to people who could not enjoy this trail experience otherwise
Generous local donors have made it possible to buy a new South Huron Trail Mobile to provide nature appreciation opportunities to more people with limited mobility. The new Trail Mobile has space for up to five passengers. The previous cart had room for only three passengers.
Nathan Schoelier is Stewardship, Land and Education Manager with Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA). He said he is always amazed at the generosity of the people in the community.
“This new South Huron Trail Mobile is only possible thanks to the generosity of our donors,” he said. “I would like to thank donors Bob Down, Norm Eckel, and Jim and Fran Sweitzer for their generosity.”
The project is supported in part by the AccessSLED grant, an initiative of the Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee to improve accessibility across the County of Huron.
The donors are making nature appreciation and outdoor recreation accessible for people who could not have this trail experience otherwise, he said.
“No words can fully capture how much we appreciate what they have done and how big a difference they are making in people’s lives.”
He added that the South Huron Trail Mobile is only possible thanks to the dedication and commitment of volunteer drivers Norm Eckel and Jim Hayter.
“We are pleased to be able to work closely with such a motivated community and help them see their vision through,” Schoelier said. “This is a unique opportunity that allows more people to experience and appreciate the natural world around them.”
People with limited mobility, who would like to enjoy nature on the South Huron Trail, on the Trail Mobile, can contact Ausable Bayfield Conservation, during regular business hours, at 519-235-2610 or toll-free 1-888-286-2610 to arrange a ride and they will contact the volunteer drivers.
