The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is taking applications for a 10-month (March 1, 2025 – December 13, 2025) part-time contract position for an Education Instructor with an opportunity for this position to continue past contract date. Reporting to the Conservation Education Coordinator, the successful candidate will work in a varied and active program, teaching energetic students in an outdoor setting.

Duties:
- Delivery of indoor and outdoor conservation education programs including nature programs at schools, conservation areas and other community locations; to local community groups and libraries; ABCA day camps and forest schools.
- Assist with the development of and ensure that the conservation education programs and services of the ABCA for school-age children complement the school curriculum.
- Assist with the development of communication, marketing and promotional materials for conservation education programs.
Qualifications:
- Degree from accredited university or diploma from accredited college in the fields of: Environmental Studies, Biology, Geography, Recreation, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, Education or other applicable field of study.
- Knowledge, ability to deliver, and hands-on teaching experience through varied delivery methods including effective species identification and enthusiastic interpretation of natural science for the purpose of outdoor, conservation-education-themed program and events for school-age students and the general public.
- Adaptable, team player with proven time management skills who works well independently with professional work ethics. Excellent presentation, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of watershed management, resource management theories, and rural Ontario.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a vehicle, valid first aid certificate, working cell phone, and a Vulnerable Sector check from the Ontario Provincial Police are all requirements of the successful candidate.
Assets
- Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
- Previous experience working in outdoor education.
Remuneration: $26.29 - $36.67 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours: An average of 21 hours a week (14-34 hours weekly) with some evenings and weekends as required.
