Volunteer Rain Gauge Network
Ausable Bayfield Conservation has a volunteer rain gauge network that logs information into an Intranet portal site. This additional rainfall information helps to determine low and high water levels.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) volunteers are also able to see a map published monthly to show data in the watershed.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation is always looking for new volunteers who will be dedicated to taking observations, but the local agency is looking for people who want to make a long-term commitment.
There are a number of uses for data from the volunteer network. When intense rainfalls cover a narrow area, widely spaced rain gauges may miss the whole rain.
Other rain gauge networks may be maintained by other agencies such as local health boards or the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA).
