Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy

The Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy (WBRMS) provides a framework for ABCA priorities and operations. It incorporates information from previous documents and addresses emerging watershed issues and action plans.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) Board of Directors has approved the Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy (WBRMS).

The new Strategy is posted on the Ausable Bayfield Conservation website as per Ontario Regulation 686/21: Mandatory Programs and Services under Conservation Authorities Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. C.27.

The approval of the WBRMS follows a Public Notice of Consultation on Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy on August 10, 2023 and a public consultation which took place until September 15, 2023 at 1 p.m. 

The watershed strategy goes beyond a traditional a watershed planning document. It is also a business plan for the ABCA and identifies opportunities to collaborate with other organizations and engage landowners to achieve watershed conservation. Climate change resiliency and adaptation are embedded within the document.  

The strategy includes characterizing the watershed, setting priorities and objectives, evaluating progress made through the previous strategy, identifying gaps, and creating action plans.

Conservation Strategy

A diverse community group of 34 contributors participated in meetings in 2010 and 2011. Their work has resulted in  The Path Forward: Your Community Conservation Strategy for Ausable Bayfield Watersheds  (download full PDF below or visit our interactive online Conservation Strategy) .
