The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament has been supporting the South Huron Trail for almost a decade and a half. The tourney has raised more than $58,000 for the trail in its 14-year history since the trail fundraiser was started by community volunteers. The event could surpass a lifetime total of more than $60,000 raised in net proceeds for the community with another successful tournament in 2019.

The community golf tournament is now hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation with volunteer support. The golf tournament organizing committee met in June and they are already hard at work organizing the August event and approaching sponsors, donors, and prospective golfers. “The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament organizing committee is excited to bring back this popular tournament that supports the South Huron Trail,” said Dave Frayne, Chair of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF). “This event is possible thanks to the generous event sponsors, community-minded golfers, and volunteers who make it a fun and successful tournament.”

The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament takes place at Ironwood Golf Club at 70969 Morrison Line, two kilometres (about one mile) east of Exeter, south of Highway 83.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a ‘shotgun’ start at 8:30 a.m. The tournament has a Texas Scramble format. Lunch is included for those who register and lunch begins at about 1 p.m. The cost for a team of four is about $360. Singles are welcome and will be placed on a team. Their registration fee is $90.

The $90 price of registration includes golf, cart, and lunch. Persons who want to attend lunch only can register for lunch at a cost of $25. The cost for golf for a junior golfer is only $25. Junior golfers (16 and under – accompanied by an adult on their team) are welcome.

The golf tournament includes a hole-in-one contest with a $20,000 prize. The hole-in-one contest is on hole #15 and is sponsored by John Godbolt.

The golf tournament committee welcomes event sponsors.

Last year’s tournament raised more than $6,000 for Jones Bridge, the new Pedestrian Bridge on the South Huron Trail. Between 2015 and 2018, the tournament raised almost $20,000 for Jones Bridge. This year’s tournament supports the 2019 boardwalk deck replacement project for Stirling Bridge.
